It’s time for another post that may or may not help you in a pub quiz.

Things That Would Be Helpful in a Pub Quiz

♥ The word orthoganal means of or involving right angles.

♥ All of the ants in the world weigh the same as 645,000,000 humans.

♥ Povitica is an Eastern European sweet bread, traditionally served at Christmas (and looks yummy).

♥ Kate Burton (of Scandal and Grey’s Anatomy fame) is the daughter of Richard Burton.

♥ The last debutantes were presented at court in 1958.

Things That Wouldn’t Be Helpful in a Pub Quiz

Happy Birthday Ruby is not a happy book.

♥ It’s impossible for me to watch Strictly Come Dancing without a smile on my face for the majority of it. (Except when Tess is making FUNNY JOKES. They don’t make me smile at all.)

♥ I love my best friend very much. (I didn’t learn that this week, it was just reiterated.)

♥ I don’t love The BFG as much as I feel I ought to.

♥ I will never stop finding C.J. Cregg saying “…crazy glued my phone!” funny.

Things I Have Learned This Week 001

Having learned a number of interesting (to me, at least) facts this week, I thought I’d start a new blog series. I thought it might be helpful to divide the lists into two; some things that might be helpful in a pub quiz, and some things that definitely won’t.

Things That Would Be Helpful in a Pub Quiz

♥ Lusophone countries are those that speak Portuguese, with Brazil being the largest in the world.

♥ At the moment, both platinum and rhodium are worth more than gold, and palladium is worth more than silver, but less than gold.

♥ It is grammatically acceptable to use both ‘learned’ and ‘learnt’ as the past participle of ‘to learn’.

♥ All of the gold ever mined would fit in the space underneath the Eiffel Tower.

♥ Simon Mayo, Bill Murray, Leonard Cohen, Liam Gallagher and Luke Wilson all share a birthday (along with my brother-in-law).

♥ Eugene Cernan, the last Apollo astronaut to walk on the moon, etched his daughter’s initials (TDC) into the dust, knowing that they would remain there undisturbed for many years.

♥ Dysthanasia (meaning ‘bad death’) is the opposite of euthanasia. It means keeping people alive artificially, in a condition where otherwise they could not survive.

Things That Wouldn’t Be Helpful in a Pub Quiz

♥ I rarely see a pair of glasses that I don’t want.

♥ It’s possible for me to watch an episode of Doctor Who and not hate Clara.

♥ The immolation of a mole of magnesium is pretty darn exciting, though one should cover their ears and not look directly at it.

♥ I have a brand new crush on Professor Andrea Sella.

♥ Show of Hands are a great folk band.
