Go Green ~ BEDM

This week’s BEDM prompts are going to test me; not only do I feel like I have less to say about them, but I’m also short on time! But I’m going to do my best to write every day. I really want to complete this challenge!

Today’s prompt is about being eco-friendly. To be honest, it’s not something that I think a lot about. I know I probably should, but I don’t. I like to think that I do my bit; I recycle, because it’s just as easy to put cardboard in one box, and cans into another, as it is to throw them away. People who say that they don’t have time to recycle amuse me, because it really only takes seconds!

I am guilty of wasting energy. Most of my electrical items remain on standby all the time, where I could just as easily unplug them or switch them off at the wall. As for water, I like to have long baths (I do most of my reading in the bath), so I know I could probably be a lot more efficient with my water usage!

I’d like to say that my main motivation for being a charity shop fanatic is the knowledge that in buying second-hand, I am saving clothes and other treasures from landfill. But the truth of the matter is that I like a bargain, and that is ultimately what keeps me going back for more. However, when it comes to donating to a charity shop, I think that my motivations are more ethical; I hate to hear that someone has thrown something away that could easily have found a second home somewhere.

So, all in all, I think it’s clear that I would receive a ‘could do better’ remark in my green report. I think everyone could probably do better than they are, unless you are living in a completely eco-friendly house and recycling every last thing.

By the way, I know that the picture of a tree has nothing to do with being green, as such. But I took it this morning, and it’s cheering me up to look at it and see all the green leaves. So I thought I’d share it with you all!

You have to recycle in Germany – if you put stuff in the wrong bin they can refuse to take it away until you sort it out!

Oh dear! I hear of places in this country that are similar, but lucky they aren’t so strict where I live. Although as I said, I do mostly recycle everything I can.
